We are a family-owned construction company with over 30 years of experience in both domestic and commercial construction, servicing the Cardinia to Gippsland region.
Over the years, we identified a gap in the industry — many homeowners struggled to find reliable, high-quality builders and trades willing or able to take on smaller renovations and custom modifications.
As a result, J&J Custom Constructions evolved.
We don’t build new homes — we transform existing ones.
Justin brings a true “jack of all trades” skillset to every project, with extensive hands-on experience across all aspects of construction. This means you’re not dealing with multiple trades and inconsistent workmanship and nothing is overlooked.

Justin - Director.
Bringing experience, skill and vision to every project
Justin began his construction career 30 years ago with a Carpentry Apprenticeship, with a strong foundation in cabinetry and joinery for residential homes. From early on, he developed a keen eye for detail and a commitment to quality workmanship that has carried through his entire career.
After several years working on domestic fit-outs, Justin transitioned into commercial construction, where he spent 15 years as a Leading Hand Carpenter. During this time, he worked with a team across a wide range of projects valued from $500,000 through to $40 million delivering high-quality outcomes under pressure. His reliability, leadership and skillset made him a highly sought-after professional within the industry.
With a growing family, Justin made the decision to return to domestic construction to create a better work-life balance. It was during this time that he further developed his passion for home renovations, working closely with homeowners to transform existing spaces into functional, well-crafted homes. He later returned to commercial construction for a further 7 years, continuing to refine his skills across all aspects of the trade.
In 2024, Justin founded J&J Custom Constructions. Having seen first-hand the gap in the industry, he recognized that many homeowners were struggling to find trustworthy, skilled tradespeople willing to take on smaller renovation projects with the same level of care and professionalism as larger builds.
Justin brings a true “jack of all trades” approach to his work, with hands-on experience across multiple areas of construction. This allows him to oversee and undertake projects with confidence, maintain consistency in workmanship, and ensure that no detail is overlooked. Clients benefit from his well-rounded skillset, practical problem-solving ability, and commitment to doing the job right the first time.
Today, Justin specializes in residential renovations and custom modifications, delivering high-quality results with honest communication and a strong focus on client satisfaction.
Outside of work, Justin enjoys spending quality time with his wife, their five children and four dogs. When he’s not building for clients or working on projects at home, he enjoys riding his motorbike for some quiet time or relaxing by the pool.
Jem - The engine behind the scenes
Jem began her career at a young age in sales before transitioning into the construction industry, where she worked in customer service and progressed to Personal Assistant to a Director of an insurance restoration building company.
From her teenage years, Jem had a strong desire to serve the community as a Police Officer. When the time was right, she followed that path and joined the Victorian Police Force, where she served as a general duties officer for 13 years across busy and high-demand areas before retiring from the role.
Following her policing career, Jem has focused her time on raising their five children and co-founding J&J Custom Constructions.
While Justin is the face of the business and the one you’ll see on site, Jem works behind the scenes managing enquiries, coordinating schedules, and ensuring every project runs smoothly from start to finish. As some like to say, she’s the one keeping everything on track.
Jem brings a strong focus on communication, organisation and honesty, ensuring clients feel supported and informed throughout the entire process. Many clients also appreciate her eye for detail and input when it comes to creating functional and well-thought-out spaces.
Due to her previous role in policing, Jem prefers to maintain her privacy and does not feature in business imagery, instead focusing her energy on delivering a seamless experience for every client behind the scenes.
In her spare time — when she finds it — Jem enjoys running, keeping fit, baking creative novelty cakes, and unwinding in the spa.
